I was born in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, in 1975.
I got my PhD in 2003 at CENTRA/IST, in Lisbon with José Lemos. The thesis (available here), focused on gravitational radiation and oscillation modes of black holes.
In 2004, I spent one year in CFC/Coimbra as a post-doc with Manuel Fiolhais.
In 2005 I moved to St. Louis, MO, to work with Clifford Will at the Washington University.
From September 2005 to January 2008, I spent two and a half wonderful years at the Physics Dept. of the U. of Mississippi as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, working with Marco Cavaglià.
Since 2008, I am a Researcher at CENTRA in the Physics Dept. of IST . I am also Adjunct Professor of Physics in the University of Mississippi and a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration.
My current research focus is on black holes and gravitational radiation, their theoretical properties and possible experimental detection.
